Project 1: GIF
Make a GIF (a looping sequence of 3 still images) that creates a psychological effect of your choice. The source images used to create your 3 stills can be found online and/or photographed by you. You must somehow manipulate the images digitally (e.g. color, filters, etc.) and incorporate some sense of motion. We are bridging the gap between the still and motion picture.
Choose a psychological effect you want this GIF to have on the audience. For example — should the viewer become moved to pity, tears or laughter? Should the audience be awed by the beauty, vastness or grandeur of the subject? Should they be sold on a particular product, process or technique? We will share the GIF with the class and test it out on them — be prepared to reveal/explain your intended psychological effect to the class afterward.
Use makeagif.com to convert your 3 images to a GIF, and download the MP4 version.

Project 2: Creative Geography
Choose a topic or context. Gather visual/aesthetic reference (at least 5 images). If applicable, gather theoretical reference relevant to your topic (make a list). Shoot footage that you will later edit together using graphic match cuts and match on action cuts. Consider making your video a loop, match cutting the last and first frame. Your video can be narrative or exploratory, but must be centered around your chosen topic or context. The final video should be 1-3 minutes long.
