EXORDIUM
EXORDIUM is a portal into an immersive visual/aural experience that moves the audience through twin revolving psycho-cosmic searches for meaning, context, and tangible reality. Worlds embodying soundscapes, rhythm and motion in a focused primordial zone evoke and sustain a mindset in which one can intuit metaphysical insights that transcend explanation and can therefore only be experienced, apexing the potential of the human psyche through two distinct digital approaches to the same end. The exhibit embodies worlds containing soundscapes, rhythm, and movement into a focused primordial zone. In the space, I aim to evoke and sustain the mindset that enables one to intuit metaphysical insights that transcend explanation and can therefore only be experienced, apexing the potential of the human psyche.
ex·or·di·um, noun formal
1. The beginning of anything.
2. The beginning or introductory part, especially of a discourse, treatise, oration, etc.
INVERTED UNIVERSE | Video Composite & Synthesized Sound | 2:55 Loop | Vimeo | Youtube
Inverted Universe is a filmic navigation of a paradoxical vacuum which reveals that its exit is its own entrance and that there is no way out. Pitchless sound and ambience reflect the inert space and evoke a psychological vacuum or neutrality, while hints of sonic harmony and color saturation emerge and shift in accordance with the fluctuating possibility of escaping the vacuum and solving infinite paradox. With the physicality of tunnels providing a metaphoric backdrop, the piece constitutes a digital manifestation of philosophical, psychological, and theoretical paradox, and their analogous relationship to paradoxes and abstractions in the cosmos.
PARALLEL UNIVERSE | Video Composite & Synthesized Sound | 2:45 Loop | Vimeo | Youtube
Parallel Universe, a grittier, more fragmented, and less stable composite, enters a surreal headspace peering between parallel universes, accessible through a more explicitly subconscious journey than physical while seeking for any thread that may join the parallel realms. Video and audio artifacts were extracted from the source media and re-composited to create effects that reflect the fragile structure of the layered subconscious state, ready to collapse, transition, or introduce unexpected elements at any moment, unsustainable in its complexity, and just outside of meaningful human reach. Created first of the two, inspiration was drawn from Journeys Out of the Body, a book on lucid dreaming by Robert A. Monroe.
Projections on opposing large walls creates immersive deep space (Inverted Universe) and vast stretches of imagination (Parallel Universe) by occupying the full field of view. As both soundscapes were created from the same source media and are atmospheric in nature, separation by a temporary wall or heavy drapery moderates audio spill between the two sides such that the entire space resonates with low-frequency connective tissue bridging their conceptual relationship. The videos are linked, but in a skewed fashion. The visual separation in the space gives the feeling of entering two neighboring alternate dimensions through which to access the inter-threaded experience. Windows (daylight) and outside noise are limited to preserve original luminance values (dark, high contrast, focused aesthetic) and soundscapes using the full dynamic range.
